Mural Painting: Evaluation Stage

DESIGN TECHNOLOGY

Evaluation Stage: Interview & Reflection about Mural Painting transcript

*Interview #1: Ms. Fussell*

Levi: What are the good points of this mural painting?

Ms. Fussell: I really like the visual of this, I find it quite unusual and arresting and I like the way you’ve drawn the type. I think it is neat (the type). I like it, it is very interesting.

Levi: What are the bad points?

Ms. Fussell: Bad points, or points to improve? I think the phrase “don’t burn them” isn’t normally associated with lungs so it was a little misleading for me personally. But pictorially it works really really well. I like the way you have little miniature trees. It’s great, I like the background color too, so that’s my only suggestion.

Levi: Thank you

*Interview #1: Mr. Saclo*

Levi: What is the good part?

Mr. Saclo: It is maybe the message because it says trees are Earth’s lungs, and it’s the first time I encountered that message and then you say don’t burn them. So I think that’s the good part about your mural.

Levi: What’s a bad part?

Mr. Saclo: I could see the illustration here, but I just noticed that you placed trees inside the lungs. Right now, if you look at it from a distance, you don’t recognize it as trees. So maybe you can work on that, to show that you depicted trees here in the lungs.

Levi: What are some ways we can improve?

Mr. Saclo: Ways you can improve, maybe working on illustration? You have the Earth as the head right and then you have here part of the human body, and you’re showing lungs and it’s nice that you are putting these images together but then you just might need to put more details so that you present it in such a way that shows the message and the message and itself is already clear.

Levi: Thank you!

*Interview #1: Ms. Castro*

Levi: What are the good parts?

Ms. Castro: I like the way you presented the message and I also like how you state the problem and you also offer a solution.

Levi: What are the bad parts?

Ms. Castro: I don’t… It’s fine for me. I like it. I don’t know what your requirements are, but in terms of conveying the message, I think you are successful.

Levi: What are some improvements we can make?

Ms. Castro: Maybe you want to put more detail in the body. Like maybe show arms maybe. And maybe more detail in the torso probably.

Levi: How can we improve?

Ms. Castro: I think I already answered that question.

*Reflection*

Levi: I think I learned how to deliver messages through art and through mural painting. I also learned more teamwork, and how to share and communicate with my classmates. Based on my interviews, I found out that I could have made the details of the drawings bigger and better, and also that it would have been nicer if I added more colors. Other things I discovered when working with the design cycle is that when there are steps made for you, things will be easier when you actually do your work since everything is planned.

*Conclusion*

I conclude that that the whole project of mural painting and delivering a good message was great fun and taught us new things about Design technology. Of course, it wasn't just about the skills and techniques, but also about teamwork and self-management skills. We got a better idea of what to do better next time when we do this activity again. Based on the interview and the video which was made through windows movie maker and the response we got from our interviewees, I also conclude that we did a good job with our message, design and basically the whole idea. Some areas for improvement is improving the detail of the trees inside the lungs and maybe making them larger. Talking about the improvement of our teamwork, I learned more about sharing, and communicating, in other words, helping your friends out when they are in need, because they will also help you when you need help.
